Fifth Grade

  1. "Know the Meaning of Angles, and Solve Problems"
    1. About Symmetry and Pattern (Field Patterns)
This site is appropriate for upper elementary grades.  Examples of shapes and letters are shown and how they create patterns and how rotating the letters create a change in the pattern.
    2. Alphabet Geometry-Acute Angles New
    3. This site uses alphabet letters to show how to classify acute angles.
    4. Alphabet Geometry-Obtuse Angles New
    5. Students learn to classify obtuse angles using letters from the alphabet.
    6. Alphabet Geometry-Right Angles New
    7. Right angles are explained by showing letters of the alphabet.
    8. Alphabet Geometry-Vertical Angles New
    9. Vertical and angles on a straight line are explained with the letter x. Excellent visuals.
    10. Angles New
    11. This space game gives students a chance to estimate angles from 0-180 degrees.
    12. Angle Tangle New
    13. A two player angle game of drawing and estimating. Players subtract the difference for a score: low score wins!
    14. Animal Weigh In
This site is recommended for 4th grade and up, may even be used with middle school. The site allows students to compare and estimate the weight of animals and gives them several chances before it helps them out. A balance scale activity which has the student drag weights to match the unit given.
    15. Banana Hunt New
    16. Get as many bananas as you can by guessing the degrees of the angles. Students will get immediate feed back and become familiar with degrees of angles in this fun interactive game. Careful, it could be addictive!
    17. Bathroom Tiles
    18. This interactive site allows students the chance to practice estimating measurements of angles.

    19. BBC School's MegaShapes
Outstanding  Excellent geometry site for ages 4 to 11.  Follow the Investigate link for student activities that involve multiple choice questions about familiar regular shapes and irregular shapes.  While students complete these activites, they have access to a shape book that provides drawings and information about each shape.  Click on the bouncing triangle for interactive java activities that allow students to use their knowledge about shapes, symmetry, and transformations.  Follow the teacher link for information about the skills that are covered at this website, along with printable activities and resources.
    20. Coordinate Graphing
The student will transform a figure on a coordinate grid. The figure may be flipped, rotated, translated, and turned. Grade level 5 and up.
    21. Finding the Third Angle New
    22. This activity helps students practice finding the missing angle of a triangle. A short explanation is also given.
    23. Funbrain Change Maker Game
Outstanding - Interactive game which asks to give the amount of coins that represent change for $1.00 or $100.00. Graphics are lifelike. (Grades 2-4)
    24. Geometry and Measurement
    25. This site is all about geometry and measurement. All of the sites listed on this page are interactive for K-5. They include: Tessellate, Polygon Playground, Shape Cave, and Shape Explorer. This is an outstanding site for a variety of interactive mathematics activites.
    26. Interactive Geometry
    27. Features several applets for discovering the basic principles of geometry. Students can manipulate figures such as polygons, angles, triangles, and parallel lines to learn about postulates and theorems.

    28. Judge and Jury
Students explore non-standard units and compare relative sizes of "steps" in this activity.  They determine how the size of each type of step is important to how many steps it takes to measure an object.
    29. Kidport 5th grade Mathematics New
    30. Measuring Angles. Students will be able to move a protractor to an angle and find the appropriate measurement. Immediate feedback is given. Great for individual learning.
    31. MathsNet Interactive Shape Version 1.0
    32. Outstanding! This site includes interactive activities for students that cover ALL of the Shape and Shape Relationship Benchmarks.
    33. MathsNet Interactive - Transformations Online Course
    34. This is the online course for MathsNet that covers Transformations. There are variety of interactive activities and it is appropriate for a wide range of grade levels. For example, some activities are a simple as determining if the object is rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise; others are as difficult as determining the new coordinates after a transformation.

    35. Math Playground Measuring Angles with a Protractor New
    36. Interactive practice using a protractor to measure angles. The site gives 10 angles for students to measure, fill in the measurement and check the answer. The protractor is already lined up with the vertex of each angle, students are to rotate the protractor into the proper position before measuring. There is a one degree of error so students need to measure and remeasure to ensure a correct answer. Good for 4th grade practice, is a 5th grade GLCE.
    37. Protractors New
    38. Excellent site for teachers to demonstrate using a protractor. This is also an excellent site for students to practice using and learning how to use a protractor. Students will make and measure angles with immediate feedback. After practicing with this on-line protractors students will be able to use the actual protractors with ease.
