  1. "Identify and Describe Shapes"

    1. A+ Math -- Games -- Matho-Geometry Version
      In this site, students can use their knowledge of geometric shapes to play the game called Matho. Appropriate for students in grades 3-5. If the answer is correct the space is filled with an "X", if the answer is incorrect the student is given another shape to find. Immediate feedback is given the student.
    2. A+ Math -- Flashcards -- Geometric Shapes
      Students are shown a specific geometric shape and asked to recognize it from a large list of choices. Immediate feedback is given to the student. Appropriate for grades 3 -5.
    3. About Symmetry and Pattern (Field Patterns)
      This site is appropriate for upper elementary grades.  Examples of shapes and letters are shown and how they create patterns and how rotating the letters create a change in the pattern.
    4. Alphabet Geometry New
      5. Outstanding: Recognizing that shapes have been slid, turned, or flipped and remain the same object, can be a difficult concept for some. This interactive site has multiple videos of each of these. This can be used as a reinforcement for the lesson that has been previously taught.
    5. BBC School's MegaShapes
      Outstanding  Excellent geometry site for ages 4 to 11.  Follow the Investigate link for student activities that involve multiple choice questions about familiar regular shapes and irregular shapes.  While students complete these activites, they have access to a shape book that provides drawings and information about each shape.  Click on the bouncing triangle for interactive java activities that allow students to use their knowledge about shapes, symmetry, and transformations.  Follow the teacher link for information about the skills that are covered at this website, along with printable activities and resources.
    6. Beacon Learning Center New
      7. Outstanding: This can be a student interactive lesson for reinforcement, or it can be used as a teaching tool for the entire class. Geo Cleo has to try to create a "shape caper". But, there is a lesson of descriptive qualities that must be known/learned first of each of these 3-dimensional objects (cylinders, cubes, rectangular prisms, and pyramids). What a wonderful reteaching activity!
       
    7. Geometry and Measurement
      8. This site is all about geometry and measurement. All of the sites listed on this page are interactive for K-5. They include: Tessellate, Polygon Playground, Shape Cave, and Shape Explorer. This is an outstanding site for a variety of interactive mathematics activites
       
    8. Interactive Geometry New
      Features several applets for discovering the basic principles of geometry. Students can manipulate figures such as polygons, angles, triangles, and parallel lines to learn about postulates and theorems.
       
    9. Making Triangles and Electronic Geoboard
      This is a teacher directed site that would be good for K on up. With teacher direction the child can use an electronic geoboard to make, change, transform and explore shapes.
    10. Math Playground New
      11. The names that go with the 2-dimensional shapes are sometimes difficult to match up. Here the students get to play a memory matching game that relys on recall of identifying, describing, and comparing familiar two-dimensional shapes. The elementary students will be challenged.
    11. MathsNet Interactive - Transformations
      This site includes a variety of activities and information that cover reflections, enlargements, rotations and translations. Activities increase in difficulty so the site is actually appropriate for a wide range of grade levels.
    12. MathsNet Interactive - Transformations Online Course
      13. This is the online course for MathsNet that covers Transformations. There are variety of interactive activities and it is appropriate for a wide range of grade levels. For example, some activities are a simple as determining if the object is rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise; others are as difficult as determining the new coordinates after a transformation.
    13. MathsNet Interactive Shape Version 1
      Outstanding! This site includes interactive activities for students that cover ALL of the Shape and Shape Relationship Benchmarks.
    14. MathsNet Interactive Shape Version 1.0 - Perpendicular Lines
      15. This activity asks students to recognize perpendicular lines.
    15. MathsNet Interactive Shape Version 1.0 - Parallel Lines
      16. This activity asks students to recognize parallel lines.
    16. RATS! Shapes
      This is an interactive site for students K-3rd grade. Students are given a specific shape to watch for as a bird flying over drops shapes. The object is for the student to only catch the shape they were originally given.
    17. Shape and Space in Geometry
      This site allows students to explore their spatial sense by completing a series of activities. During the activities the students use coordinate, symmetry, and measuring to discover the properties of shape and space.
    18. Sort Triangles
      This interactive activity allows students to sort commonly recognized shapes into categories of triangles and other shapes.

      20. This interactive activity allows students to sort commonly recognized shapes into categories of all right angles, some right angles, and no right angles.

      Outstanding - Grades 3 and up. This interactive site allows students to explore and manipulate geometric shapes. Students are encouraged to compare and describe shapes according to their attributes.
       
    22. The Educator's Reference Desk New
      23. Using at least three, 3-dimensional shapes (possibilities include: cone, cube, retangular prism, and cylinder) students will identify shapes that architects use to build houses. Students will then explore these shapes by building a model of their "dream" home. This will help by making connections with these 3-dimensional shapes and real life.
    23. The Mysterious Tangram
      This is a very student friendly and fun site. Students build shapes by turning, flipping, and combining others to fill patterns. The site gives clues and encourages children by using positive sayings. Good for children 1st grade through 6th.
    24. Toon University
      This game focuses on two skills: identifying angles as acute, obtuse, or right angles,  and determining whether angles are congruent.  Students help the robot choose the right answer by firing missiles at spaceships
    25. Virtual Manipulatives Geometry
      26. This site contains activities for students to explore various
      geometric concepts using virtual manipulatives. Explanations for use and links to math standards are provided.
